Bull’s Stem

A Hong on Wheels Collection, 2025

Every cycling enthusiast is facing an universal trouble: whether it's because of adjusting geometry or simply falling into the commercials trap, there are too many unused parts in the storage. In 1942, Pablo Picasso was thingking about the same problem:

“One day, in a pile of objects all jumbled up together, I found an old bicycle seat right next to a rusty set of handlebars. In a flash, they joined together in my head. The idea of the Bull's Head came to me before I had a chance to think...”

While Picasso was exploring the relationship between objects and concepts in contemporary art, I was fretting about why my Marketplace listing had not yet sold. As it was 80 years ago, I suddenly remembered the moment I looked up at the Picasso Museum in Paris: instead of letting these parts lie in a box, I should have hung them on the wall.

Bull’s Stem is a precisely designed and engineered component that connects a modern handlebar and saddle to be like Picasso’s masterpiece. It holds a standard 31.8mm handlebar at one end and clamps a 7mm saddle rail at the other, also providing a mounting hole on the face plate for easier hanging.

-Assembly

By combining different models of saddles and handlebars, you can create bullheads with different forms and personalities: it can be a gentle buffalo, or a majestic bison, or a flighty longhorn...

-Combinitions

Inspired by the styling of modern (and broadley 90s) CNC-machined bike parts, and through several iterations and stability tests, Bull's Stem met the perfect balance between style and structure. The final product is manufactured by SLS 3D printed nylon, which is a more economical way to produce while meeting the structural requirements and accommodating the quantities.
